(Based on design by IW5EDI - Handi-Tenna)
Here are constructional details of a simple high performance mini 70cm UHF antenna. It is easy to build and install. It out performs any rubber ducky or whip antenna.
The antenna gain is about 9dbi+ with front to back ratio of about 8:1. The driven element is in folded dipole configuration to increase the feed point impedance of dipole from 12.5 ohms to 50 ohms (12.5X4=50)
The performance of this mini 3-element yagi is outstanding. With 1-5 watts output from the handy, from the top of 3-storied house, we could work with repeater station 30Km+ from my QTH.

The boom plastic rod is fed through a plastic sleeve (taken out of a medical syringe). This enables antenna to be rotated by 90 degrees for horizontal / vertical polarisation.

Director & Refector elements are made of solid Aluminium rods ( dia not critical)
Driven folded dipole element is made from running a #18 enamelled copper wire around a bakelite strip. The connections are taken out through two eyelets.
Holder box is made from flex board and using fast setting glue. Front portion of a syringe is used for push-fit of plastic boom for rotation through 90 degrees.
