Here is a very simple way of making lead-throughs for taking input / ouput connections from your RF modules like filters, oscillators, RF apmplifiers, etc.
These are different from feed-through capacitors which are essentially used for DC or low frequency connections. These are used in place of conventional SMA / BNC connectors in small RF modules to conserve space / cost / RF cables with connectors.
Steps for making Lead-thrus
Take small sized ceramic beads (these can be salvaged from old heaters, toasters, heater elements, heating rods, soldering irons, etc.)
Take a small piece of copper enamelled wire (I used #18), about 2cms; scrap-off the enamel.
Pinch one end of the wire with nose-plier (as shown in the picture)
Insert the wire in the bead hole and pinch the other end also. The bead will sit tightly between the two pinched ends.
Cut-off the excess wire from the ends. Tin them with soldering iron and your Lead-through is ready!!
Installation
Drill a hole of appropriate dia to snugly fit the ceramic bead. Position the lead-thru and fix it on the panel with one drop of fast setting glue.
