A number of low cost RF cables have Aluminium mesh braids; a typical example being RG6 coaxial cable. A crimp type connector is normally used for making the connections.
Many applications require soldering of braid to PCBs / tags / earthing points etc. For such applications, coaxial cables with aluminium braids are not usable.
This problem can easily be resolved by using an pin-eyelet or a thin copper tubing, as illustrated in the following pictures >
Pic-1 shows a RG6 foam coaxial cable with Aluminium braid and a pin eyelet. Any type of eyelet or even a thin copper tubing can be used for this purpose.
Pic-2 & 3 show the eyelet sliped over the braid and crimmped and braid cut to size.
Pic-4 shows the final assembly ready for soldering.
Pic-5 shows the practical application of this simple trick for making connections with the driven elements of UHF Yagi Beam.
